What is the Annex Teen Clinic?
The Annex Teen Clinic is a sexual health clinic serving young people through age 25. The Annex has served the community as a valuable, trustworthy source for clinic services and education since 1971.
The Annex aims to:
- Improve the reproductive health of adolescents and young adults.
- Prevent unintended teen pregnancy.
The Annex provides a full range of low cost family planning services for teens including clinical services, referrals, follow-up and education. All programs are designed to reinforce preventative behaviors that will decrease the incidence of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. All services are confidential, and no one is turned away for the inability to pay.
Mission
The mission of the Annex is to support the young people of Northwest Hennepin County and North Minneapolis in the challenging transition from adolescence to adulthood through advocacy, health care, counseling and education.
Vision
The Annex will be a catalyst for creating a community where all young people have the resources and support they need to successfully make the transition from adolescence to adulthood.
History
Located in Robbinsdale, the Annex Teen Clinic was founded in 1971 through the joint efforts of Holy Nativity Lutheran Church and St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Church. We were the “teen annex” of the church. The clinic’s services were originally limited to testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, with a strong emphasis on health education. In later years, the Annex became an independent, nonprofit agency, and services were expanded to include more comprehensive sexuality-related health services.
Today the Annex provides low cost, sexuality-related health care, education, counseling and outreach to adolescents in Northwest Hennepin County and North Minneapolis. All services are confidential and are offered at low cost (using a sliding fee scale) or at no cost. Because so many people knew us over the years as the “teen annex,” the name “annex” just stuck; this is the origin of our name.
In April of 2011, the Annex moved from the basement of the Historic Robbinsdale Library to its new location only 6 blocks away at 5810 42nd Ave.
